New opinions are always suspected, and usually opposed,

Commentary, May 2006: I spent the first part of April recovering from bronchitis. We hit the road mid-April and spent the entire month of May traveling south then east from Oregon to VA. I have collected many articles to read and reflect on and will post them soon. I did take the opportunity to photograph scenes in the Southwest. I have also had a little recreation time to photograph some Wildflowers in VA.

Commentary, April 2006

During the month of April, I will be traveling across the US from Oregon to VA to be on the East Coast with family as needed for awhile. We image nomads will travel whenever possible. I continue to read about the woes of public education and will get back to making regular comments as soon as personal and family responsibilities allow.

Commentary, March 2006

During the month of March, I was providing home and hospital health care to both of my parents who have been seriously ill. Selfishly, I had no time to reflect on anyone's problems but my own during this time. Looking into the genetic mirror is frightening.

Teacher Man, by Frank McCourt

Comment: I just finished reading Teacher Man by Frank McCourt. Enjoyable. Read my reflections on this book. (2-21-06)

Budget cuts in education funding will push more students out of school. Resources will be lacking to help them pass required high school exit exams, if they have the ability to pass them in the first place. Will the military even take them without a diploma or GED? Joining the military may be a viable option for some of these kids because they can get some training, travel, health benefits, and educational opportunities, but it would be a better option if President Bush had not invaded Iraq! Joining the military anytime can be deadly, especially during wartime.

"... What are schools for anyway? I ask you, is it the task of the teacher to supply canon fodder for the military-industrial complex? ... " ~ Frank McCourt in Teacher Man (2-17-06)
